Garages/Carports

Your home inspection also includes an inspection of the garage area. Garages offer places the park your vehicles out of the weather and are often used for additional storage. However, garages often get carbon monoxides fumes and fire hazards from mowers, gas cans and vehicles stored in them. It is crucial that the door from garage leading into the house is a fireproof door with good weather stripping to keep all the harmful gasses out of your home. The wall between your home and the garage should be a fire separation wall as well in case of an emergency. The electrical outlets in the garage should be higher than 18”; the reason for that is because all the heavy fumes from gasoline settle near the floor and you do not want a source of ignition that low in the garage area where many people store gas cans and vehicles.
